A Word About America in Prophecy
The Old Testament prophets were servants of the Lord who were sent to the nation of Israel. It is not reasonable to think that they prophesied about nations that did not exist in their day such as the United States of America. Some see the United States of America in the three letters of Jer-USA-lem but this is erroneous. This is not a reliable way to understand prophecy and assumptions and illusions such as these should never be the way of serious students of bible prophecy. We conlude that the United States is not to be found directly in bible prophecy.
There is however, passages in the prophets that may apply to any nation that is following the same negative or positive disposition toward God. These are considered "applications" but not interpretations. Some modern day students have used Old Testament passages and the Babylon found in the book of Revelation to describe certain situations concerning Amereica when it bears the fruit of what the prophet says... such as "a proud nation" or a "wicked nation" or "wicked people," etc. Thus, some modern prophets use specific passages from the prophets to describe the nature of modern nations. We must also remember that when a prophet speaks of an empire or nation it could be speaking of the spirit of something pertaining to the end time, such as a last days Babylon, or a Mystical Babylon, for instance. But, this should never negate where the prophecy is speaking to a nation at the time the prophecy was given to a specific nation or empire. It may be true that concerning prophesies of the last days, that America is seen in these kind of ways as prophetic inferences.
Another consideration is that we also have modern day prophets who could foretell prophecy concerning America in the last days scenario. Nowhere do we read that God would stop sending prophecy or end the giving of prophecy... not until all is fulfilled. The law and the prophets where until John (the Baptist). But now, the Spirit speaks to the church through his Son. Thus, the apocalypse was given to John the Apostle for the understanding of the church for what is to be. We are told that in the last days we would continue to have prophecies:
  • "And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:"
  • - Acts 2:17
Concerning the ministry gift of prophecy in the church ... St. Paul says,
  • "Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;"
  • - Romans 12:6-7
  • "Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy."
  • - I Corinthians 14:1
  • ’But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort."
  • - I Corinthians 14:3
We must also recognize that even as God gave Pastors and Evangelists as ministry gifts. He also gave to the church the ministry gift of prophets as St. Paul says.
  • "And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;"
  • - Ephesians 4:11
On this page, we have included reputable ministers in the gift of prophecy concerning America whether it be by an audible voice, dreams, visions, revelation, or special insight.
